Lightning Labs is building a programmable financial layer for the internet with fast, scalable bitcoin transactions. Lightning is like a credit card network for bitcoin, enabling instant, high-volume transactions with fees far lower than credit cards. The company is developing the Lightning software infrastructure along with financial products that make it easier to send and receive funds on Lightning.

A total of six blockchain startups have made it to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF’s) list of technology pioneers for 2020, including Lightning Labs.
The WEF’s 2020 list includes a total of 100 firms from around the world that are pioneering new technologies and innovations, from artificial intelligence and machine learning to the internet of things (IoT) and robotics.
Tech pioneers also become part of the WEF’s global innovators community and strategic intelligence ecosystem to help industry leaders with fresh perspectives. Last year, blockchain solutions firm Bitfury was one of the blockchain startups on the WEF’s list. Ripple was also recognized by the forum in 2015.
