BOOBS ON THE GROUND: EXTENDED CUT
It has been one hella wild run these past couple of weeks. Right after ep 200 was a long string of shop and show calls (kickstarting that off was Thunder Down Under oh my), right into a 60 hours at US Bank for a corporate gig that lasted 5 days. Day off into loading in LX for a wrestling gig. Saturday that week was a flight out to the Bereft Coast for Lavish’s Masquerade Ball for his 33rd Birthday! It was a…dare I say…quite lavish event! Lots of great food, drink, and company. Had the absolute pleasure of being introduced by the good Pvt. Broswing to damn near all of his extended family! That was Sunday, when we got a chance to catch Delta OG live for a benefit show. Damn good group of musicians if I do say so myself. Monday ended up being a rest and recover day for the flight home. During that time, we had a moment to look at Music Side Project and got an ep from Delta OG published.
A couple of days later, there was a chance to demo a live podcasting 2.0 feed to the MN Blockchain Initiative! Check out the record episode here:

Tonight we take a look down the life of Vidocq, the world’s “first super sleuth”. He was a criminal turned detective, with his actions making some of the foundations of criminology. What he started would go on to provide the basis for organizations like Scotland Yard and the FBI.
🌙 Eugène-François Vidocq and the Birth of the Detective
⭐ The First Detective Documentary - Vidocq
The Rumblings of Thunder - We go back to 1775. Vidocq was born to a perfectly ordinary and relatively well-to-do family in Arras in northern France. His family has wholesome hope for his life. Vidocq got his start early in a life of mischief at the age of 13. It’s also stated that he sold off all the family’s porcelain and ran with the money. His trip to the Americas was thwarted by a prostitute who robbed his ass blind, with his clothes missing and his wallet gone.
Beat The Star - Vidocq joins the circus! This doesn’t last long tho. After his stint with the circus, he does join up with a puppet troupe. However, “he was caught in flagrante with the puppet master’s wife during a performance of Punch and Judy.” Vidocq does in fact return home to welcoming arms from his parents. Then the Revolution kicks off! His actions lands him in jail, and the parents do attempt to talk his out of his sentence.
A Place of Misery - There was an admirer of his that was able to free him from jail, a lady by the name of Louis something or another. Her families connections frees him, and three months later she tells him she’s pregnant. This kicks off a shotgun wedding, tho it is revealed that Louise lied about the pregnancy. He promptly got out of Dodge. And lands in prison. Was it all a frame job?
Quite The Reputation - In 1799, it’s time to bust out of prison. Pass the tobacco juice please.
It Was Time To Get Legit - Prison break after prison break, this guy escapes them all. He even boasts in his memoirs that he escaped from every galley in France, and more than 20 prisons. Vidocq did grow tired of being on the lam, so he once more returned home to start a dry goods business with his mother. It was then that some criminals recognized Vidocq, who had started using an alias, and attempted to extort money out of him. There was only one thing to do. Turn rat.
Fling Off The Disguise - The feds end up helping orchestrating his final escape from prison, in order to establish a certain trust within the criminal enterprises. We’ll learn a little bit about his operation, as he went into deep underground society. After 1817, his crew makes 800 arrests, and his fame skyrockets. He can be found wearing satin lined cloakes, and white skin calf gloves. While the public loved him, the police really started to hate him. They felt as if they were being upstaged (which they were).
Laying Foundations - Once upon a time, a young countess was found with a bullet in her head. Police assumed it was her husband. Enter Vidocq.
Poe Was A Fan - By this point, he had really pissed off the police with his tactics. The police became serious enemies, and this was right around the time Vidocq sold his patents for forge proof paper to the banks. Their accusations we’re based on Vidocq staged bank robberies in order to sell them these forge proof papers. The documentary continues on to tell a story of how he delivered a baby mid chase of a criminal.
Inquiries Office - Finally, he got quit from his job at the bureau. He left a very wealthy man, with a half million francs to his name. His annual salary was five thousand francs. After that, he did try to start a cardboard company which failed, “ex-convicts meant cheaper labour, and therefore cheaper prices” is what buyers thought. He did return briefly back to the Sûreté, after there was a rise in crime after his first departure. He even schooled the British so that they could form Scotland Yard. What’s an intrepid self starter to do?
Legal Woes - He was so successful that the cops had to raid his ass! They eventually busted into his office, confiscated a bunch of shit, then thru him jail for a pending trial. Turns out cops hate competition. The offenses included: fraud, abduction, corruption of civil servants, defamation, pretension of public functions, usury, selling honours, stealing letters, providing substitutes for conscripts hoping to avoid military service.
Vidocq ended up passing in 1857 at the age of 82. He had attempted to start a second firm up in London but that had failed. His story inspired countless other novelists like Charles Dickens with Great Expectations and also became the star of pulp novels. He’s appeared in graphic novels, Assassin’s Creed, movies and more. In the current era, he’s even inspired to Vidocq Society, a citizen’s investigative group dedicated to solving cold cases.
“For a man known in his lifetime as a master of disguise, capable of appearing several inches taller or shorter than he really was, it is fitting that today Vidocq lives on in a hundred different iterations, each a projection of what the beholder wishes to see. Hero, antihero, showman, shapeshifter: in the absence of independently verifiable truth, Eugène-François Vidocq will be whatever you want him to be.”
